Champions of Norfolk!

After seven years of being the ‘nearly team’ in league and tournament, The Point-sponsored Cringleford U14s have been crowned Norfolk Futsal Champions. After a convincing 3-1 win over Drayton Jets in the final of the Norfolk FA-run competition at the University of East Anglia Sports Park, ‘The Yellows’ now go on to represent Norfolk at U14 level in the regional FA Futsal finals later this summer.

Cringleford U14 Assistant To The Assistant Coach and The Point’s Creative Director Ian McKinnon-Evans was clearly overly-excited by the team’s performance. ‘Over the moon Brian, over the moon. Pleased for the lads, obviously. Unbeaten on the day. They done really well up against some decent outfits. Scored 30, only conceded 3. That’s real quality in anyone’s book. What Conte’s done at Chelsea this season is nothing compared to what we just done.’

Whilst belated success finally puts silverware in the trophy cabinet, McKinnon-Evans was pressed why sponsors The Point have shown unusual loyalty in the modern game to perennial non-winners; ‘We’ll have to ask them for the cash to build a cabinet first! But no, yes, no you’re not wrong no, we’re well made-up for the sponsors. They stuck with us over the years and put a lot into this team, especially into the lads’ shirts. I think they just really like the way black and yellow works. But competing in the regionals is like gold dust to them. Not sure where we’ll be – Peterborough, Cambridge, could even be Ipswich – we’ll take any of them ‘cause it puts the sponsor in front of big sophisticated audiences. Different gravy, Brian, different gravy.’
