Norfolk County Council

It was Oscar Wilde who suggested 'the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about'. So when NCC tasked us to create a strategy to raise the profile of Norfolk to primarily a business audience, we could not afford the bear-trap of spectacular imagery that people recalled without recalling the brand.

To break down the preconceptions of Norfolk only being on the map for holidays, second homes, a lot of water, singing postmen and Alan Partridge, we had to have a message that was already uniquely 'Norfolk'. Being brave, being different and being able to laugh at one's self (which after all is in the blood around these parts) would also make the idea much more memorable and stronger.

The result: 'World Class. Normal for Norfolk'.

A major part of the World Class Norfolk campaign is our political lobbying activity. This tactical 48-sheet poster was placed at the MP's entrance to Westminster Tube Station. The poster was originally planned as a backdrop for a photo shoot featuring all of Norfolk's cross party House of Commons members. It's timing could not have been better, as it went up right in the middle of the Lynn Truss 'affair' causing much comment in the corridors of Westminster. Better than that, it gained us some free and extremely valuable media coverage through a piece in the political commentary pages of the London Evening Standard.

These are the original 6-sheet messages for the World Class Norfolk campaign which were posted at Norwich International Airport, Norwich-London mainline railway stations including Liverpool Street and for the Kings Lynn-London line, at Kings Cross.
